Why the US Drinking Age is 21: VOX

If a citizen must wait until they are 21 to purchase and consume alcohol, maybe those people should be exempt from paying taxes until they are 21.

If the government can hold federal funds over the states, then when can the citizens of America petition the government to no longer fund the government?

21 to drink, why not 21 to tax?

If a citizen is legally barred from exercising any of their rights, then why are they expected to fund a system that doesn’t view them as eligible citizens?

The government only cares when we take money away from them.

  1. Woohoo, PREACH!!! I agree, the government doesn’t worry when taxes are being paid but oh hell no when you try to withhold. Not that I’ve ever tried but, you made a very good point!

Thanks Huntress. Hey, if I am not eligible to exercise all of my rights, then why must I still pay the entry fee?

I don’t think a minimum age should be established, rather if a person is being taxed, then they should be able to exercise all of their rights as they see fit. If a 15 or 16 year old person can get a job and pay city, county, municipality, state or federal taxes, then they should be viewed as a full fledged citizen. Same with felons and everyone else who pays taxes.

Ha, if they are mature enough to hold down a job, then they are mature enough to spend their money as they see fit.

What is the purpose of taxes without citizenship? What is the purpose of citizenship without rights?

These people pay taxes, yet are too young to vote on how their tax money should be spent and they are too young to exercise all of their rights? Young enough to work and die, old enough to drink and buy guns.

Anything less, is taxation without representation.

  2. I think the voting age, the drinking age, the age to go to war to defend our country should all be the same. If people can do one at a particular age, then they can do all at that age, and if age is a restrictions for some things, then it should that same age restriction for others. If you can’t trust and allow someone to drink until they are 21, then they should not be able to fight for our country either, and they sure as hell should not be trusted to vote. Why would I want someone to be able to vote and tell me how to live my life when they have absolutely NO life experience at all. That just doesn’t make any sense.

      1. I didnt watch the video…Ben is interrupting…but I agree, one age for everything. Tobacco is 21 in CA now too.
Also, I lived through the Reagan years and dear old Ronnie was only good for helping the rich get richer. I hate how every idjit is remembered fondly after they’ve been dead for 20-30 years. We can’t remember history…we’re doomed!

Crazy how the patron saint of the right was all about gun control, prohibition and illegal arms deals! Wonder why no one ever brings up that aspect of his regime?
