Whenever slavery is brought up, I tend to roll my eyes. Why you may ask? Because, I never owned another person. No one from what I can gather in my family owed slaves or even parlayed in the trade for that matter. However; whenever I am lectured about racism, bigotry and slavery, I feel as if by default I am somehow incorporated into the slavers and their trade. Simply due to my skin color.
Then I wonder, what about the families that were slavers. How come they get a pass? You can’t help who your family is, but then again, why am I always included on the list? Let’s take a look.
Anderson Cooper: From what I gather, his great great grandfather was Cornelius Vanderbilt, who owed plantations and owned slaves.
Ben Affleck: Apparently he had family members that owned slaves.
The Royal Family (U.K.): Now, for as far as their “royal” blood goes back, you’re gonna tell me that they never owned slaves?!?!?!?
President Barack Obama: Turns out, ole Barry’s kin George Washington Overall owed slaves.
The Catholic Church: Over 2,000 years old, I bet if you look lazily, you’ll be able to find proof easily enough that the Pope and the church participated, encouraged and probably even enjoyed slavery.
Between the Pope, the Catholic Church, Vatican City and the Royal Family, I would think there would be plenty of money to pay reparations. Yet, they couldn’t care less. The rest on this short list have money and assets in the billions possibly trillions, depending on how encompassing your calculator is. They always wanna lecture us on slavery, racism and everything else, when their own blood is culpable.
I grew up a poor white boy, but at the time I didn’t know that. My parents never whined to me about how unfair life is. They were mature, responsible adults that loved me.
Slavery can never be taken back, it was wrong and horrible. I just wanna know why I am blamed for what I did not do, why I am blamed for a skin color that I cannot control and for the actions of others that I have no blood relation to?
Why do those with the closest relations to the slavers get to lecture the rest of us on how bad and horrible we are for things we did not do? They look down their nose at us, they don’t care about slavery, why should we?
